Starling Lodge
Starling Lodge is a beautifully renovated barn and has a 4 star rating with the French tourist board. We pride ourselves of offering an exceptionally high quality property which is real "home from home". Every guest has the same reaction when they walk into this magnificent building - WOW!!!
The house is very spacious, full of character yet with all mod cons. The huge central lounge has an open gallery and we have retained all the massive oak beams and exposed stone walls. The kitchen has a gas cooker, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, tumble dryer and fridge/freezer. The lounge has satellite TV, video, DVD, CD and radio. There is a landline telephone for which you may buy a card at the local stationers.
Starling Lodge comprises of the main house with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (one with Jacuzzi style massage bath, the other with power massage shower). The adjoining B&B wing has 3 bedrooms, all en-suite with power massage showers and one or more of these may be included for larger parties.
You have a private swimming pool (10m x 5) and doors from the kitchen and downstairs bedroom lead directly on to the large covered patio where you will find a family sized bar-B-que. The patio looks out across open countryside as far as you can see in one direction and up to the woods on the hill in the other. Guests are invited to make full use of the gardens and grounds of 16 acres. We have outdoor table tennis, football, badminton, boule, sandpit, a climbing frame created from part of a fallen oak tree and swings.
Le Fleix village is just over 1km and has a small supermarket, post office, petrol station, 2 bakers, butcher, stationer, bar/restaurant and hair dresser. It's a pleasant walk or you may borrow one of our bicycles if you are feeling not quite so energetic.
Ste Foy La Grande, a charming old bastide town set on the River Dordogne with delightful town centre, is 7km and has a superb Saturday market, larger supermarkets and a multitude of other shops and restaurants.
Bergerac is 17 kms and is also an old bastide town set on the river Dordogne and also with a picturesque town centre surrounded by restaurants. There are many shops, boutiques and supermakets here too. The airport is just outside the town and is less than 20 minutes from our house.
